Reflection Project launch at Cannon Hall

'Reflection' was Barnsley Council's winter cultural season of events for 2009 and focused on a programme of activities around glass, light and reflection. Inspired by Cannon Hall's Glass collection and indeed Barnsley's rich glass making history, 'reflection' created a number of opportunities for contemporary glass makers to exhibit, sell and create new work.

'Reflection' was launched on Saturday 5 December 09 with the grand unveiling of a specially commissioned outdoor light installation at Cannon Hall.  To support the 'Reflection' launch, artists from Action Space Mobile worked with Barnsley school children to create reflective tree hangings (stained glass, mirror mosaic) that were paraded and installed as part of the launch event.  Families of all the participating children were encouraged to take part in the parade and hanging event.

Egypt Project at Cannon Hall

A truly engaging project in which children through story telling and story making, created art work and participated in unravelling a mystery all on the theme of Egypt.  The pyramid at the centre of the project was built to both house the children involved and their art work.

We began with our story…

The two artists delivering the project had been traced by Cannon Hall as they had found some artefacts in their cellars which they believed had something to do with them… Amongst the artefacts there were instructions ..to make a pyramid as a matter of urgency and there was also a film which confirmed two earlier explorers were related to the artists (the likeness was remarkable). The trunk must only be opened by them.  It was here that they found the curse of forgetfulness.  Artefacts had been stolen and must be replaced.

The children engaged in activities to make these missing artefacts to put back into the pyramid and so to lift the curse.

The children and parents were enthralled and stricken by the 'voice of the Pharaoh' lifting the curse.
