Action Space Mobile (ASM) has been working with schools during the last 25 years. Projects range from one off workshops to short residencies and long-term projects. We work with Schools to find and encourage creative ways of learning both inside and outside of the National Curriculum.

ASM contracts freelance artists such as musicians, movement & drama specialists, dancers, puppeteers, mosaic artists and other craft specialists who collectively, have a great deal of experience of working in schools and who work on a demand led basis with the company.

Working in this way offers many benefits to any project, one of which is the variety and range of artistic skills and experience on offer. Another is that the company has developed and strengthened a unique working practice this way over a number of years.

The creative team is structured in such a way that allows all projects to have a lead artist responsible for the creative planning, coordination and who liaises with all involved.

The team is then made up of supporting artists who have responsibilities within the area of their specialised art form. Volunteers are also contracted, where required. ASM recognises that positive involvement by all is vital to the success of the work in schools.

This includes where appropriate the involvement of, children and young people, staff, parents and carers and the wider community. Work to date has covered many areas and aims to promote creative learning in schools. If you would like to discuss a schools project with us we would be happy to talk to you.

If you would like to commission a piece of art work or would like us to facilitate an arts/performance workshop with your school please contact us on 01226 391 112.

Commissions of this kind encourage the community to work together, developing social cohesion and postivity, which helps to bind people together.

NUM BANNER PROJECT

In July 2009, to mark 25 years since the miners' Strike, Barnsley council commissioned Action Space Mobile artists to work closely with 4 Barnsley primary schools with the aim of creating new, modern interpretations of the traditional NUM Banner.

The finished banners were then exhibited in the recently refurbished Barnsley Civic Assembly Room.  The project aimed to celebrate the sense of community that epitomised mining communities and was symbolised within the banners and to enable today's young people to display the same sense of unity and solidarity on matters that are important to them.
