Visibility is our arts and adventure project for children with disabilities and their friends/siblings. Children are delighted, surprised and entertained by being drawn into our 'living storybooks' based on themes such as Beside the Seaside, The Orient Express, Cruise Liner, Lost in Space and The Circus. This unique sensory project that has been developed by our arts and disability specialists involves storytelling, play, art, craft, movement, singing, music, puppetry and drama. We also incorporate activities to stimulate the senses. The project culminates in an opportunity for the children to share their experiences with parents and carers. We can offer week-long projects, weekends and day tasters. We like to work in schools, both mainstream and special. We physically build the story environment day by day so we need a space that is fully accessible and that we have sole use of.
Outcomes for the participants include:
· Increased capacity to work, play, make decisions and concentrate
· Building of self-confidence, self-awareness and maturity both individually and
as a member of a group
· Co-operation with and helping other children
· Being creative in ways ordinarily not available to the children, achieved within
a supportive, structured and fun environment
· Development of communication and fine motor skills
· Building of a sense of achievement
· Assisting parents and carers to provide vital and valuable development paths
