International Development

Action Space Mobile has a long history of international work which to date has focused on two strands:

·         Showcasing our work as exemplars in countries with a little or no history of

     participatory arts

·         In depth capacity building work in Romania

International Touring

Action Space Mobile has toured its integrated disability theatre projects to Lithuania, Norway and Germany, providing inspiration and training and making links across cultures.

Capacity Building in Romania

Action Space Mobile has been instrumental in changing attitudes and practices around disability in Romania.  For over 20 years artists have regularly visited and worked in hospitals, training Romanians in the use of combined arts activities and co-operating with NGOs, such as Fundatia de Sprijin Comunitar (FSC).

A recent evaluation quoted FSC as 'The leading organisation in the region providing an inspirational example and role model for other NGO's on how to develop services within a poor community'.

Action Space Mobile has contributed at national policy level to the transition from incarceration in institutions to care in the community, helping to transform the lives of those with disabilities and those who work with them.

In 2003 Action Space Mobile brokered a partnership between FSC and the Open College Network in the UK to pilot a qualification for Romanian Combined Arts Workers, effectively creating a new profession.  This qualification is now recognized nationally.

Sharing Best Practice

Action Space Mobile is seeking to expand its international work using our experience in creating training models for NGOs that are emerging in the new democracies and states in transition.
