A project funded through Youth Music working with pupils from two Wakefield special needs schools, Pinderfields Hospital School and Oakfield Park School and a mainstream Wakefield school, Cathedral School. For the final term of the Project special needs students from Wakefield College also participated.

ASM Arts Workers, Cath Smart, Simon Grainger, Becky Newbould and Dawdson Teixeira delivered three programmes of ten weeks, which included music, song writing, singing / voice and performance skills.
These four arts workers have a wealth of experience of working with adults and children with special needs and regularly work on ASM's lifelong learning programme. In addition to this Cath and Simon worked as Mentors to two young people involved with the project.
The aim was to work with the young people to create and produce a song, create a CD and potentially deliver a performance. Devised as an inclusive project the structure of the sessions allowed a number of children from special needs provision to participate in an out of school activity with children from other schools.
This creative process provided essential social, artistic and life enhancing activities for those involved. The young people from the mainstream school not only received the same opportunities, but also benefitted through the arts mentoring from ASM Arts workers.
This project ran from March 2007 to the end of November 2008.
