InterMusic / InterSong

A project funded through Youth Music working with pupils from three special needs schools, Pinderfields hospital school, Highfields and Oakfield Park and a mainstream school, Cathedral School in Wakefield. Cath Smart and Simon Grainger have begun to deliver three programmes of ten weeks, which include music, song writing, singing / voice and performance skills.  The two arts workers have a wealth of experience of working with adults and children with special needs and regularly work on ASM’s lifelong learning programme. In addition to this Cath and Simon will work as Mentors to two young people, one of whom, Ben Taylor is currently engaged in the project at this time. Ben will work as a music trainee on the project.
The aim is to work with the young people to create and produce a song, create a CD and potentially deliver a performance.  Devised as an inclusive project the structure of the sessions will allow a number of children from special needs provision to participate in an out of school activity with children from other schools.  This creative process will provide essential social, artistic and life enhancing activities for those involved.  The young people from the mainstream school will not only be given the same opportunities they will also benefit through the arts mentoring from ASM Arts workers.
