Romania

Action Space Mobile has worked in Romania since the early 90s with people with disabilities and excluded groups like ‘Street Children’ in collaboration with other charities, notably Muzika Charitable Trust http://www.muzika.org.uk/
and Relief Fund for Romania http://www.relieffundforromania.co.uk/
This work has sometimes been practical with a joint English and Romanian team working at an institution or it has been training Romanian staff at all levels. We started the first special needs theatre group “Teatrul de Gisteni” that now tours with its Romanian director Vali Racila from its base to festivals and other towns.

This year we made a film “We are all the same as you” which highlighted where the need was greatest whilst praising the progress made by some institutions in the Bacau area of N.E. Romania. We are now embarking with Muzika on a three year input to improve the lives of people with profound and multiple disabilities through programmes of stimulation using music, touch, communication and enhancement of their environment. Fund raising and specialist volunteers are needed to sustain this work.
